BMW 2ND Street Soundcheck Music Showcase to bring community together in support of Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease 2ND Street District joins forces with Austin Monthly to host a free day of music, shopping, food, fun and philanthropy Austin, Texas (January 27, 2014) – The 2ND Street District, Austin Monthly, BMW and the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease invite Austinites to attend 2ND Street Soundcheck on Saturday, March 1 from 1 to 8 p.m. Thousands will pack the 2ND Street District and rock-out to seven local and national bands. The all-day festival features bright emerging talent including L.A. based Broken Anchor, whose songs have been featured in several commercial and television spots, The Digital Wild, a trip hop group from Austin that’s quickly gaining fans as word spreads of their amazing live shows, Nashville’s Leagues, featuring Two-Time Grammy Award winner Tyler Burkum on guitar and Black Milk, a hip hop producer/performer and emcee from Detroit. Capping off the full day of music will be Austin’s own Bob Schneider.

The festival, emceed by singer-songwriter and Austin native Ginger Leigh, will coincide with the release of Austin Monthly’s 10 Bands to Watch in 2014. Among those who will be featured in the magazine and festival are ten-piece folk rock collective East Cameron Folkcore and Austin rap sensation Zeale. “For the eighth year in a row, Austin Monthly is highlighting 10 bands that we feel are right on the cusp of hitting it big. These two bands are among them,” said Austin Monthly Editor-in-Chief Erin Quinn. “In the past, we’ve featured Okkervil River, The Octopus Project, Ume, Kat Edmonson and more—and 2014′s bands are at that same stellar caliber.” During the festival, attendees can chow down on local cuisine, enjoy a cold beverage at Shiner’s Beer Garden, and snag souvenirs and tasty treats from more than 20 food vendors, restaurants and brands – all raising awareness and funds for Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease.
