Back in 1999, we had a vision: Create a lively, walkable neighborhood in the heart of downtown Austin.

From 2000 to 2017, the 2nd Street District came to life through private and public partnerships

Located north of Lady Bird Lake, the District is a six-block mixed-use neighborhood.

By 2017, we were home to more than 600 residences, 250 hotel rooms, 3,000 employment opportunities and 175,000 square feet of retail space. Through our efforts, we set a new standard of modern living within Austin's downtown area.

Today and beyond

The District continues to be an essential part of Austin's culture. We’re proud to host the city's finest restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, while also serving as a hub for creative and tech businesses.

We continue to outdo the expectations of our community members (and our own!), making the District the number one downtown destination to visit and live.

Live like a local

Did y’all know this? The District has more locally-owned and nationally-acclaimed shops, restaurants and venues than anywhere else in downtown Austin.

We created this neighborhood for people who share our values: We encourage local. We nurture community. We share what’s given.

The District consistently ranks as one of the top three places to live in all of Austin, Texas.

As a resident (or visitor) you'll find a plethora of amenities, services and resources. Bike share programs, art galleries, outdoor movie nights, and lively festivals–to name a few! Every event brings together Austinites from all walks of life.
